bodybuilding.jpgFor people new to bodybuilding it’s easy to get sucked into the hype of supplements. If you walk into any supplement store they’ll probably try to sell you everything they have on the shelves, taking advantage of the fact that you’re new to bodybuilding and don’t know a lot about supplements.

So what supplements should you take? The truth is you do not need to stack up a whole load of supplements. When you’re just starting out in bodybuilding it’s best to start with the “base” supplements and move on to others as you get more advanced and learn more about training, diet and supplements. We’ve made a list of the “base” supplements that we recommend all beginners should consider using if they want to get the most out of their training sessions.

Supplements for bodybuilding beginners:

  1. Whey protein
Absolutely essential to bodybuilding (and most other strength sports). Essential for muscle repair and growth and preventing muscle breakdown after your intense workout.
  2. Creatine
Creatine can make a huge difference to the explosive power you have in the gym. Creatine is used by muscle for energy in explosive bursts, this means you can do more reps, more sets and this results in huge muscle growth. Most users experience weight gains of 4-6lbs in the first 2 weeks taking creatine.
  3. Glutamine
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the body. It plays a vital role in muscle repair. When you come out of the gym your body is in a catabolic state (meaning muscle is being broken down). Taking glutamine after you workout prevents muscle catabolism and promote anabolism (muscle growth). You can also take glutamine before bed for optimum muscle repair while you sleep.
  4. Dextrose
Dextrose should be taken post workout only. Dextrose creates an insulin spike. Insulin is an extremely anabolic hormone and helps transport nutrients to muscles fast. Take protein, glutamine and creatine with dextrose after your workout is the best post workout drink!

That’s it, those are the best supplements for beginners. Once you’ve been training we suggest you try out some other supplements on the market. Products like nitric oxide, amino acids, EFAs and testosterone boosters can help you increase muscle mass and strength.
